OND:01 BSC/ASC TRAINING

Emergency Management Training. This is required training for all District Building Safety Coordinators (BSC) and Area Safety Coordinators (ASC). The training will provide participants with an overview the District’s emergency management program and the role of BSCs/ASCs within it. Some of the topics that will be covered include the following: • Overview of District emergency management plans and procedures • Role and responsibilities of Disaster Service Workers • BSC/ASC program roles and responsibilities • Building Emergency Action Plans • Walking through a BSC/ASC emergency response scenario. While this training is required for BSCs and ASCs, it is open to the entire District Community and all are encouraged to attend. If you are interested in the BSC/ASC Program, or are interested in becoming a BSC/ASC in the future, please feel welcome to attend.

OND:02 - Film: The Lives of Deaf Mexicans: Struggle and Success (Must checked out through SRJC Library)

Compelling look at the hurdles faced by Deaf people in Mexico, part of a rich culture that is fraught with educational setbacks, communication obstacles, and limited employment opportunities. Shows Mexican Deaf people struggling for the basic rights enjoyed by Deaf people in the US and other countries.

OND:05 - Film: Audism Unveiled (Must checked out through SRJC Library)

Audism is the discrimination against Deaf or hard of hearing people (note: in the Deaf community, an audist is akin to a racist). Powerful documentary: Deaf people from varied social, racial and educational backgrounds share real-life experience struggles.

OND:06 - BCARE Training
Crisis Intervention Resource Team

The Crisis Intervention Resource Team (BCARE ) assists SRJC faculty and staff in dealing with disruptive situations and includes representatives from District Police, Student Services, Student Health Services, Student Psychological Services, Disability Resources Department, and Counseling. The goal of BCARE is to prevent crises before they occur through the provision of training, consultation, and intervention on request. BCARE is available to departments, staff members for training in dealing with distressed, disruptive, or dangerous situations involving students on college sites.  Training will include teaching warning signs of potential crises and tools to cope with difficult situations should they occur. BCARE will clarify the roles and responsibilities of BCARE and other college resources, as well as how to access support services and tools helpful in making decisions regarding crisis situations.

Committee Hiring Orientation for classified/faculty/management who are serving on hiring committees. OND:09 - The Librarian is IN: Faculty Consultations for Library Resources
 

Library resources have evolved dramatically in function and interface. These tools have strong potential to help students succeed when integrated into their instruction. A meeting with a liaison librarian can be scheduled for individuals or small groups. This is a quick way to gain expertise in using SRJC library resources such as Smart Search, E-Book Collections, NoodleTools, databases and other learning resources.

Appreciative Observations are about witnessing the great teaching that happens at SRJC. The goal of these observations are to learn and affirm best practices in teaching and learning. They are never evaluative; rather, they are solely for the observer to gain new insights. We have much to learn from each other, and appreciative observations provide a space to witness, appreciate, and discuss good teaching.

Presenter(s): Duolingo
 
Duolingo has bite sized Spanish Lessons to learn or brush up on your Spanish. On Duolingo, you'll learn a version of Spanish closer to what you'd hear in Latin America than in Spain, but the differences are relatively small and everybody will be able to understand you. They have bite-sized lessons or you can just do an hour a day. They emphasize reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills .

Participate in an online instruction in Spanish through Babbel Course options include beginner's courses, grammar, listening and speaking, intermediate courses and courses regarding specific countries and traditions. A completion certificate is available after each course is completed. Includes interactive feedback on pronunciation. Hours completed can range from 1-12 for flex.
